Two Teenagers Accused of Starting Fires in Memorial

Two Houston-area teens are suspects in a series of arson cases in the Memorial area.

Xavier McNight, 19, and a 15-year-old friend were arrested earlier this week. They are former students at Stratford High School in Spring Branch ISD. McNight had dropped out, while his co-defendant is enrolled at an alternative school. A police officer with the school district was tipped about the two teenagers and conducted a series of interviews to locate them.

In early February authorities said they were in pursuit of arsonists who had set fire to dumpsters and apartments from December of last year to January. Four of the six blazes reportedly started in stairwells and prevented apartment residents from escaping. The other two fires were set at an elementary school and middle school.

McNight and his friend currently face one charge for an apartment fire, but additional charges against them may be forthcoming.
