Jury Selection Begins for Craigslist Killings Case

An Ohio teenager went on trial Tuesday for being the co-conspirator in an online scheme that left three men dead.

Brogan Rafferty, 17, is being tried as an adult. He and his co-defendant, Richard Beasley, 53, are accused of using phony Craigslist ads to lure and murder job seekers. Both suspects have pleaded not guilty.

Rafferty cannot face capital punishment because he was a juvenile at the time of the alleged murders. Instead, he could be sentenced to life in prison. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Beasley.

Jury selection is underway. The actual trial may last up to six weeks. Rafferty reportedly smiled and waved at the 56 prospective jurors when he was introduced by his attorney. The opening statements and testimony will begin this Friday.
